Supporting Transitional Justice in the Gambia
GRC has supported domestic efforts within The Gambia to pursue accountability for the international crimes and human rights violations committed under the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh. Accountability for these crimes is crucial for building respect for the rule of law and to deter future abuses. GRC pursued these objectives by developing tools and providing training to Gambian legal practitioners (particularly, prosecutors and judges) towards equipping them with practical information and know-how to help confront the injustices of the Jammeh era and to meet the challenges presented by the country’s transitional justice process.
