GRC Co-Hosts Western Europe Regional BHR Forum Session on Responsible Minerals Sourcing in Ukraine

On 17 September, Global Rights Compliance (GRC), together with Swedwatch and UNDP, will convene the side session “Responsible Minerals Sourcing in Ukraine: Human Rights, Security, and Impacts on European Supply Chains” at the Western Europe Business and Human Rights Forum in Strasbourg.

The discussion will bring together:

  • Maryna Kupchuk, Deputy Head of the International Investment Cooperation and Promotion of the Socially Responsible Business Division, Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy;
  • Ella Skybenko, Senior Researcher and Representative for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Business and Human Rights Centre;
  • Kateryna Buriakovska, Business and Human Rights Legal Adviser, Global Rights Compliance;
  • Michaela Streibelt, Founding Partner, Blue Marble.

The panel discussion will explore how Europe’s pursuit of secure and sustainable mineral supply chains can be aligned with responsible business conduct, Ukraine’s reconstruction and EU integration priorities, and the need to ensure that increased investment in the sector does not create or reinforce human rights abuses and environmental harms. The session will also consider the impact of Russia’s full-scale invasion, including the illegal exploitation and pillage of mineral resources in occupied territories, and the responsibilities of companies, investors, buyers and public authorities connected to conflict-affected supply chains.

Date: 17 September 2026, 11:30 – 13:00 CEST

Session: Responsible Minerals Sourcing in Ukraine: Human Rights, Security, and Impacts on European Supply Chains
