Enhancing Compliance and Building Capacity: Combating Modern Slavery
Global Rights Compliance (GRC) contributes to the global fight against all forms of modern slavery, including forced labour, child labour, and human trafficking, through targeted legal, operational, and training initiatives. GRC works with governments, civil society organisations, businesses, and local communities to enhance legal compliance, strengthen inspection frameworks, and ensure access to remedy for victims of modern slavery.
Context
According to the 2018 Global Slavery Index, an estimated 35.8 million people were living in modern slavery, with numbers expected to rise due to the socio-economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In response, GRC developed a Modern Slavery Compliance Guide for UK businesses and their global supply chains, with a particular focus on Bangladesh. The guide assists companies in identifying, preventing, mitigating, and addressing risks of involvement in modern slavery. It outlines corporate obligations under the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, specifically the reporting requirements under Section 54.
