Since 2023, GRC has been working together with local civil society organisations in Yemen, including Musaala, the Ras’d Coalition, and SAM, to bolster capacity to document violations of starvation-related economic, social, and cultural rights through the lens of reparations. In this context, we published a ‘Reparations Guide: A Framework for Documenting, Investigating, Advocating for, and Seeking Reparations’ for ESCR violations. In the next phase of this project, GRC will work with its local partners to map the harms suffered by victims of ESCR violations in Yemen, along with their needs, and deliver the joint findings in a public-facing report or communication to an appropriate human rights mechanism. By fostering local ownership, this project is strengthening the foundations for Yemeni civil society to effectively contribute to any transitional justice mechanisms established in the future to address violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Yemen.
