In 2018, Global Rights Compliance (GRC) began working alongside business, civil society, and international actors to ensure that any future reconstruction efforts in Syria are grounded in human rights and in compliance with international humanitarian law (IHL).
Rebuilding Syria after years of conflict and widespread IHL violations presents immense challenges. Integrating a human rights-based approach, including application of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and IHL standards, is critical, not only to manage legal and reputational risks, but also to guide reconstruction efforts towards genuine peacebuilding and accountability.
We work in partnership with the Business and Human Rights Unit, Chatham House’s MENA Programme, international legal experts, and a network of Syrian NGOs and business actors engaged in post-conflict planning and accountability efforts.
