On December 5-6, Global Rights Compliance (GRC), with the support of the European Union and in collaboration with Dr. Ingrid Elliot, an expert from the UK Government’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, hosted a pivotal workshop in Kyiv. The focus of this event was to validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed to enhance the capacity of investigators and prosecutors in handling cases of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).
This workshop marked the culmination of a two-month consultation process involving civil society organizations, legal experts, and practitioners. Participants included a Supreme Court judge, senior prosecutors, and investigators from across Ukraine, all of whom are integral to shaping Ukraine’s response to CRSV. Their contributions were instrumental in refining these SOPs into actionable guidelines tailored to Ukraine’s unique context.
The finalized SOPs will serve as a critical resource for legal and investigative professionals, offering clear, practical frameworks to ensure justice for survivors and hold perpetrators accountable. By standardizing approaches and integrating international best practices, these guidelines aim to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to address the complex and sensitive nature of CRSV cases effectively.
GRC’s CRSV Mobile Justice Team is part of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA). The ACA, supported by the US, EU, and UK, provides comprehensive assistance to Ukrainian law enforcement and prosecutors in addressing international crimes in the context of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment to advancing justice mechanisms in Ukraine, ensuring survivors of CRSV are met with robust legal responses and unwavering support.
This workshop was made possible with financial support from the European Union.
