On 16 March 2026, the trial of ISIS member Sabri Essid opened in Paris, a significant moment in ongoing efforts to pursue justice for crimes committed against the Yazidi community in the aftermath of ISIS’s attack on Sinjar in 2014.
A representative from Global Rights Compliance attended the opening of the proceedings. The case has renewed international focus on the system of enslavement, sexual violence, and persecution that targeted Yazidi women and girls during ISIS’s campaign of terror.
At the heart of this trial are the voices of Yazidi survivors. Their testimonies continue to document the deliberate separation of families, the killing of men, and the enslavement and repeated transfer of women and girls among ISIS members. Survivors who choose to testify play a vital role in establishing the truth and strengthening efforts to hold perpetrators accountable.
