REPORT – “Retaliation to Remedy: Violations against defenders of business-related human rights abuses in the Philippines”

In the Philippines, those who dare to stand up for human rights in the face of business- related abuses are paying a high price. Human rights defenders have been subjected to a range of attacks, from legal harassment to unjust imprisonment and even extrajudicial killings. Genuine and prompt access to remedy is essential to address these violations and ensure that human rights defenders are respected and protected, and to bring an end to impunity.

Global Rights Compliance’s powerful new report “From Retaliation to Remedy: Violations against defenders of business-related human rights abuses in the Philippines” outlines a range of domestic, regional, and international avenues for pursuing both judicial and non- judicial remedies.

The report presents recommendations for the government of the Philippines to better protect communities, activists and the environment, for multinational mining and agribusinesses to respect the rights of these people and ecosystems, and for communities and human rights defenders to best protect themselves against oppression by government and big business.

The report will be presented on the 26 April 2023 at a virtual launch event from 9-10amBST//4-5pmPHT. To register for the event, click here.
