Online Course on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence for Ukrainian Judges and Court Assistants

Registration is now open for the online course “Conflict-Related Sexual Violence” (CRSV), developed as part of the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) and delivered in partnership with the National School of Judges of Ukraine, Synergy for Justice, and Global Rights Compliance (GRC). The course aims to strengthen the capacity of judges and court assistants to address CRSV cases in line with international humanitarian, criminal and human rights laws.

Running from 28 October to 9 December 2025, the course will be delivered fully online and will combine video lectures, practical exercises, and testing. It is designed for professionals working in the justice sector who are engaged in the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of crimes of sexual violence committed during conflict.

Through six comprehensive modules, participants will explore the legal definitions and forms of CRSV, the relevant international and national legal frameworks. The course will also focus on evidentiary challenges in cases of rape, sexual slavery, forced pregnancy, and other sexual violence crimes, as well as on CRSV committed against men. A separate module is dedicated to issues of consent and coercion in conflict settings.

By completing the course, participants will strengthen their understanding of how to recognise, qualify, and analyse CRSV and ensure that judicial processes are trauma-informed, sensitive to survivors’ needs, and fully aligned with international best practices.

The initiative is part of GRC’s ongoing work to promote survivor-centred justice and support Ukraine’s judicial institutions in enhancing accountability for conflict-related crimes.
