Illuminating the Dystopic Discrimination and Human Rights Abuses against Women and Girls in North Korea

We must take urgent action to address the widespread discrimination and violence faced by women and girls in the DPRK as well as the grave abuses that occur through the defection process. On International Women’s Day, it is important to draw attention to these violations and work towards ending them. As a co-host of a high-level side event at the UN HRC, we are proud to shed light on the horrors facing countless North Korean women and girls.

Prior to the event, GRC, along with NKDB and TJWG, will release a position paper outlining the key recommendations we will be advocating for during and after the event.

The event will feature opening remarks by Ms. Elizabeth Salmón, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK, and closing remarks by Her Excellency Ms. Lee Shinwha, Republic of Korea’s Ambassador for International Cooperation on Human Rights in the DPRK.

The Position Paper can be accessed here: English and Korean.
