Legal advisors from Global Rights Compliance (GRC) joined a British parliamentary delegation, led by the Rt Hon Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the UK House of Commons, during a recent visit to St Andrew’s Church in Bucha – a site where the Russian army committed atrocity crimes during the occupation of the region.
During the visit, harrowing photo and video evidence of atrocities committed during Russian occupation in February–March 2022 were presented by the church’s priest, Father Andriy.
GRC legal advisors briefed the UK officials on the progress of war crimes investigations not only in Bucha, but across all regions affected by Russia’s invasion. They also outlined broader strategies currently being pursued to ensure accountability for these grave violations.
The British officials honoured the victims by visiting the Alley of Heroes – a solemn tribute to those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom.
“Slava Ukraini is a phrase we hear constantly in the British Parliament,” the delegation noted. “The United Kingdom has stood with Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and will continue to do so as long as it takes.”
“In these difficult times, the support of partners and allies like the United Kingdom is absolutely vital. The UK has been consistent in both its statements and its actions – not only in standing with Ukraine broadly, but also in advancing justice through the investigation and prosecution of war crimes. Perpetrators must be held accountable. This is the only path to achieving justice,” said Maksym Vishchyk, Centre Region Mobile Justice Deputy Team Lead.
