Webinar titled «The Urgent Need to End Starvation Atrocity Crimes: Lessons from Syria to Palestine»

GRC Foundation Vice President Catriona Murdoch will participate in a webinar titled «The Urgent Need to End Starvation Atrocity Crimes: Lessons from Syria to Palestine»

Date: Apr 17, 2024

Time: 05:00 pm CET

Location: online (registration is needed)

Israel is using starvation as a war tactic in Gaza, killing aid workers, restricting aid deliveries and cutting off water and fuel. Syrians are all too familiar with the devastating crime of mass starvation, which the Syrian regime and its allies often impose on besieged communities.

During the webinar, Catriona Murdoch will touch upon the return of the deliberate and systematic use of starvation as a method of warfare, why it has been for so long overlooked and under prosecuted and how the unfolding situation in Gaza might impact the above. Speakers will also discuss their struggle to gain recognition of systematic starvation and siege crimes in Syria by international prosecutors and the unique barriers to justice for stateless Palestinians in Syria and Gaza. They will also discuss innovative efforts to establish legal avenues against impunity, such as pursuing cases at the International Court of Justice and filing legal complaints against German politicians accused of aiding and abetting genocide.

Catriona Murdoch, Vice President of Global Rights Compliance Foundation and Project Director of Mass Starvation Accountability Project
