GRC’s Mobile Justice Team visit Kherson Regional Prosecutors to discuss support for a plan to prioritise war crimes investigations and build command cases.
During the visit to Kherson, MJT legal advisers presented their proposals and exchanged views on how to ensure effective investigations, use of limited resources and continued cooperation over the next year. As agreed, mapping, prioritisation and selection of cases remains critical to case building and MJT advisors will continue to support the RPO.
“The number of war crimes committed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in each region amounts to thousands or even tens of thousands of cases. To bring the controllers of these crimes to justice, investigations need to be mapped and cases need to be consolidated to understand the full criminality of those in command. “The Kherson Prosecutors work in the most challenging circumstances and are slowly but surely exposing the criminality of the Russian military and their commission of numerous international crimes. Now is the time to start to focus on the chain of command to show those who bear the greatest responsibility” said Wayne Jordash KC, President of the GRC International Law.
The Mobile Justice Teams operate as part of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA Group), initiated by the US, EU and UK governments to help Ukraine bring to justice those responsible for crimes committed during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
