Global Rights Compliance (GRC) is honoured to participate in a pivotal discussion hosted at the UK Parliament, House of Lords, Committee Room G, on Wednesday, 8 January 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM GMT.
This event will shed light on the atrocities committed against the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan (Xinjiang) and examine the UK Government’s limited response to these crimes. Despite international recognition of genocide and crimes against humanity, concrete actions to hold perpetrators accountable remain absent.
The discussion will delve into:
- China’s systematic human rights violations, including mass detentions, forced labour, and cultural erasure.
- International efforts for justice, such as cases brought to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and under universal jurisdiction.
- The role of UN bodies and civil society in advocating for scrutiny and accountability.
- Practical solutions to amplify the call for justice and action from the UK Government.
Speakers Include:
- Baroness Helena Kennedy LT KC, Director of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI).
- Dr Sayragul Sauytbay, Vice President of the East Turkistan Government in Exile and a whistleblower from China’s concentration camps.
- Salih Hudayar, Foreign Minister of the East Turkistan Government in Exile and leader of the East Turkistan National Movement.
- Lara Strangways, Head of Business & Human Rights at Global Rights Compliance.
- Rodney Dixon KC, Legal Counsel in the application to the ICC and other cases.
This event presents an opportunity to reflect on the international community’s collective responsibility to protect human rights and take meaningful action against impunity.
