Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has led to a significant increase in the prevalence and magnitude of sexual and gender-based crimes across the country. The exact extent and scale of these crimes are still unknown, but the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (OPG) is currently investigating more than 250 cases.
This side event will explore key progress made by Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General in strengthening its institutional capacity and strategic approach to addressing conflict-related sexual and gender-based crimes. Moreover, it will reflect on key lessons and experiences from other domestic and international jurisdictions who have also dealt with some of the same challenges that prosecuting authorities in Ukraine are confronted with today.
